It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Dr Daniel (Danny) Kane, who died on 16 April 2021 in Melbourne. Danny has been an Esperantist since 1965. He held an impressive position with the Australian Diplomatic Service (at the Australian Embassy in Beijing) and later became Professor of Chinese at Macquarie University (Sydney). In 2006 he taught a course on the teaching of Esperanto at the Institute of Languages, University of New South Wales.

Danny was widely known as a kind-hearted, good-natured, intelligent and kind man. He leaves two sons and one daughter.

A memorial service was held Monday, 26 April 2021, at 2pm, at Wallumatta Function Centre, Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, corner of Delhi and Plassey Roads, North Ryde NSW. Macquarie Park Cemetery will also be Danny’s final resting place, so one had the opportunity to pay respects to him and his wife, Xiaoqing, at their burial plot on the day.
